Programme taken from:

Northanger Abbey

Emma &
The Minor Works

Performed by Kim Hicks

THE SCOTSMAN
Kim Hicks...triumphantly impersonates Jane Austen in her delightful and shrewdly-chosen readings about aspects of courtship from the novels...but to call them readings does no justice to Miss Hicks's sparkling artistry for she makes Austen's characters leap off the page.
Mario Relich
Venue
Kim Hicks...with her manner the very personification of intelligent wit she brought the scenes vividly to life....It's a shrewdly economical performance, exploiting every telling gesture and as carefully effective with silence as with speech.
Shirley Brown

Jane Austen

There has been a growing interest in Jane Austen over the last fifty years as the ever increasing number of books and articles devoted to her life and to her work bears witness. Radio, but especially films and television - have widened her popular appeal; although in dramatised form something is lost: the author's presence. Her narrative style and characterisation are to be enjoyed as much as the story itself.

"Courtship" which is entirly made up of unabridged extracts from Novels is primarily a lighthearted look at this major theme that runs through all Jane Austen's work, for not only is she a great novelist and satirist but also, par excellence, she is a remarkably fine writer of comedy.
T.S.P.

At its simplest Courtship has minimal technical requirements. An upright chair and a small table are sufficient to present this performance. If a lighting rig is available then some additional atmospheric effects can be included.

Kim also performs a one women show: "Couples?" The wit of Dorothy Parker.
